I
remember back in the fledgling days of PsychoNoble,
we tried to advertise in some rather feeble ways.
However, one that strikes me still today was when
Jason posted on the I-Mockery message board. He
asked the people there if they would visit us and
give us some constructive criticism. We were still
a small site on Brinkster at that point, not even
paying for our space.
The response to this little request was met with a
rather large dose of hostility. Some cited the post
to be spam, and claimed it should be taken down.
Others scoffed at our attempts to advertise on this
particular board. However, one post in particular
really hit me.
"If
people want to go to your freaking site, they'll go.
Let things take their course. Oh, and a word of
advice: if you're looking for fame, or are trying to
become the next I-Mockery or something, kiss those
dreams good bye."
I had to sit back in my chair
and put those words in my head. I sat there for
quite a while and pondered this post. By posting to
this site, am I really just looking to be a part of
another I-Mockery? Did I really just want fame?
I admitted to myself that
I-Mockery was an inspiration for us, as was Maddox
and many other sites. To deny that would be
foolish. To deny that I want this site to be a
success would be equally as foolish. I put a decent
amount of time into this site, and I would
eventually like to get something back. I don't see
anything wrong with that.
However, if I do not get
anything out of this venture into cyberspace, it
really doesn't matter. PsychoNoble isn't about
fame; it isn't about being another I-Mockery or a
site like it. I write because it entertains ME. I
write about things that anger ME, or about something
that I find funny. I hold events like Nerf Wars
because they entertain ME. If someone else can find
some humor in what I write and do, or can take
something from what I've written here, then I think
I've succeeded.
Will we be another I-Mockery?
No, probably not. Can we be just as good as
I-Mockery? Perhaps some day. Does it matter in the
long run? No. PsychoNoble is a hobby. We sink
money into it because it entertains US.
Entertaining you people is merely a side effect. A
very good side effect, but still a side effect.
So I say, Welcome to
PsychoNoble.com. If we entertain you as much as we
entertain ourselves, you are in for quite a stay.

gimmick that should have never gotten over, but was
taken to unbelievable heights. Also, he is
constantly injured. |
